Rapid Pass: One Card for All Public Transport E-Ticketing Services :
Introduction:
To simplify and expedite fare, fee, and toll payments in public transportation, the Government has introduced the "Rapid Pass Card" under the initiative of implementing an integrated e-ticketing system (One Card for All).
Objectives:
To enable passengers with a quick and hassle-free ticket collection process and reduce reliance on cash transactions.
To bring transparency in fare collection, eliminate corruption and financial leakage, and ensure accountability.
To integrate buses, trains, metro rail, ferries, and toll roads under a unified ticketing platform.
To promote a user-friendly smart ticketing system with digital payment capabilities and increased ICT dependency.
To enhance efficiency in transport management through the use of modern data analytics and a centralized clearing house system.
What is a Rapid Pass Card?
Rapid Pass: Rapid Pass is an electronic smart device introduced by DTCA (Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority), equipped with an Integrated Circuit (IC) chip or similar digital technology. It stores a specific monetary value (stored value) along with the user’s personal and other relevant information. Currently, fares can be paid using the Rapid Pass on the metro rail and Hatirjheel circular bus service. In the future, Rapid Pass will be usable for fare payment on other government and private public transport services as well
This card ensures high-level security through EAL6+ certified technology, one of the most reliable in global ICT security standards.
Pricing:
The initial cost of a Rapid Pass card is BDT 400, of which BDT 200 is stored as an initial recharge and BDT 200 is the card issuance fee.
Goal:
To collect all transport fares, fees, and tolls through a single card (One Card for All) and ensure automated distribution and settlement among relevant service providers through a Clearing House system.
Time-Based Implementation Plan for Rapid Pass Card :
🔹 Short-Term Goals:
Enable fare payment via Rapid Pass in Hatirjheel Circular Bus Service and Water Taxi.
Formation of a Special Purpose Company (SPC).
Launch Rapid Pass in Dhaka Nagar Paribahan and other bus services.
Integrate Rapid Pass in Dhaka BRT system.
Launch online top-up system for Rapid Pass card.
🔹 Mid-Term Goals:
Integrate with Metro Rail Line-1 and enable Rapid Pass there.
Use Rapid Pass for toll collection.
Introduce Rapid Pass in waterway transport.
Expand Rapid Pass to all Dhaka city bus services, CNG autorickshaws, and ride-sharing services (e.g., Uber, Pathao).
Extend Rapid Pass usage to inter-district buses and railway services.
🔹 Long-Term Goals:
Implement Rapid Pass in Chattogram Metro Rail.
Introduce E-Money functionality.
Ensure Rapid Pass coverage in all transportation modes across Bangladesh.
Enable Rapid Pass for payments in utility services and shopping centers.
